Appointment of Members and of the President of the EFTA Surveillance Authority

On 11 January 2018, during a Public Sitting of the EFTA Court, Ms Bente Angell-Hansen from Norway took the oath as the new President of the EFTA Surveillance Authority. Ms Angell-Hansen has had a long career in the Norwegian Foreign Service. Now, leaving the service and her position as Ambassador to Austria and Head of the Norwegian Mission to the United Nations in Vienna, she is succeeding Mr Sven Erik Svedman as President of ESA as of 1 January 2018 until 31 December 2019.

On the same occasion, Mr Högni S. Kristjánsson from Iceland took the oath. Mr Kristjánsson succeeds Ms Helga Jónsdóttir from 1 January 2018 until 31 December 2021. He previously held the position of Permanent Representative to the United Nations, EFTA and WTO in Geneva.

College Members of the EFTA Surveillance Authority are appointed by common accord of the Governments of the three EFTA States parties to the EEA Agreement.
